Rivera was injured after chasing after a fly ball and twisting his right knee in the outfield.

The 42-year-old, who routinely catches fly balls during batting practice as a way to keep in shape, fell to the warning track.

The all-time saves leader was helped by Royals team trainers and then by Yankees team trainer Steve Donohue, who accompanied him on the cart that took him off the field.

The preliminary report from Kansas City is that Rivera suffered a torn ACL during the incident, according to Yankees manager Joe Girardi.
