(NEW YORK) — The New England Patriots released newly signed wideout Anthony Gonzalez Tuesday.
Gonzalez signed a one-year contract with the team May 17. The contract would have been worth $701,000 if he made the roster, but would have been reduced to $368,000 if he was placed on injured reserve.
Gonzalez was a first round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2007. The 27-year-old has had an injury riddled career and has played in only 11 games over the past three seasons.
Since being drafted, Gonzalez has 99 receptions for 1,307 yards and seven touchdowns.
