(PROVO, Utah) – Pfizer has reached a settlement in a multi-billion-dollar lawsuit filed by Brigham Young University over the development of the painkiller Celebrex. BYU chemistry professor Daniel Simmons discovered the genetic workings of the drug in the 1990s, and accused Pfizer of violating a research agreement. The terms of the settlement were not released to the public, though the university plans to honor Simmons with an endowed chair in recognition of his lifelong work in advancing human health.
