Professionals include Americans who work as teachers, lawyers, doctors, etc. This category includes 24% of the population, and is, by far, the largest. Gallup points out that 40% of the people categorized as professionals have post graduate degrees – the highest proportion of any other occupational category.

In the same poll, Romney leads in other occupation categories including business owners, famers, construction workers, and manufacturing. Romney holds the biggest lead over Obama in the farming category, which only 2% of voters identify as their occupation.

The 7% of workers who identify themselves in the clerical/office workers category were tied evenly between Obama and Romney.  Gallup notes that these numbers are not surprising. Workers often identify where they work, with who they will vote for in upcoming elections.
