He smacked two homers and drove in three runs leading the Yankees (23-21) to an 8-3 win over the Kansas City Royals (17-26).

“I was just looking for a good pitch to hit,” Rodriguez told the YES Network. “I’ve been working long and hard the last two or three days just trying to put myself in a good position to hit. I’ve had a lot of good pitches that I’ve been fouling back. I think the difference tonight is I put myself in a better hitter situation.”

Andy Pettitte (2-1) was solid in his third start for the Yankees. He went seven innings, allowing two runs while striking out eight.

Derek Jeter single in the eighth inning tied him with Paul Waner for 15th on the all-time hit list with 3,152.
