Stocks End the Day Mixed as European Concerns Linger

Hemera/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — The markets finished mixed Thursday, with the Dow and S&P closing the session up 33 points and two points, respectively, while the Nasdaq gave up 11 points.
Worries about Europe’s shaky financial situation kept the markets in negative territory for most of Thursday’s session. European leaders failed to deliver any new steps to ease the region’s debt crisis.
But in the U.S., Americans may be seeing more opportunities for jobs. The number of first-time jobless claims filed last week dropped by 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 370,000.
