The last time the Warriors played in San Francisco was from 1962-1971, before they moved to Oakland.

“This city is committed to working with the Warriors to make sure we have this arena built by the 2017 NBA season,” said San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee. “The Warriors have been the Bay Area’s basketball team for 50 years and today sets the stage for the Warriors to be our Bay Area’s team for another 50 years.”

Co-executive and CEO Joe Lacob, along with co-executive Peter Guber, have been working to return the team to the City by the Bay since buying the Warriors for a league-record $450 million in 2010.

“We will play here in 2017, take that as a promise that we will fulfill,” said Guber. “It will be a world-class entertainment venue, we’re all in.”

As for current Warriors head coach Mark Jackson, there is no guarantee that he will be coaching the team come the 2017-18 season, but he did bring his pen on Tuesday during the press conference to work out a new deal.
