Alvarez Hits Two Homers for the Second Straight Day in Pirates Win
Published at(CLEVELAND) — Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez hit two home runs for the second consecutive day and knocked in a career-high six runs, as the Pirates (34-31) knocked off the Cleveland Indians (33-32), 9-5.
“I’m just glad to help us win the series,” Alvarez said after the game.
Alvarez’s back-to-back strong performances have raised his batting average over the Mendoza line.
The win puts Pittsburgh a half game behind Atlanta and San Francisco for the National League Wild Card lead.
The Pirates get a day off before starting a three game series in Pittsburgh versus the Twins on Tuesday.
