Blue Jays’ Kyle Drabek to Undergo Second Tommy John Surgery

Brad White/Getty Images(MILWAUKEE) -- Another tough break for the Toronto Blue Jays' starting pitcher Kyle Drabek. After suffering a sprained UCL, Drabek will undergo Tommy John Surgery. It will be the second time in his career that he will have to undergo the procedure.

In his most recent start against the Washington Nationals last week, Drabek felt a "popping sensation" in his elbow. After confirming with doctors, he was diagnosed with the sprained UCL. Drabek had the same procedure four years ago, and took 13 months of recovery for him to return to the mound.

The 24-year-old pitcher is in his third season with the Blue Jays. He was among a group of prospects acquired by the team back in 2010 from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for pitcher Roy Halladay. He was struggling this season before suffering the injury, going 4-7 with a 4.67 ERA. He is not expected to return until at least mid-2013.

Drabek will join fellow starter Brandon Morrow on this disabled list, while starter Drew Hutchinson is waiting to hear back on the status of his ailing elbow.
