Hernandez cleared waivers after he was designated for assigment by the Braves last week. Any team that picked him up would have had the pay the rest of his salary this season.

The 37-year-old pitcher initially did well this season, and even had an ERA under 3.00 as early as a month ago. Despite that success, he has struggled in recent weeks. After serving as a starter during his entire career, the Braves used him this season as a reliever with mixed results at best. This season he went 1-1 with a 4.94 ERA.

Hernandez made his Major League debut back in 1996 with the Florida Marlins. He was key member of the team’s 1997 World Series run, going 4-0 in the postseason that year. If Hernandez does hang up the spikes, he’ll finish his career with a 175-177 record with a 4.40 ERA.

He has pitched for the Braves, Diamondbacks, Expos, Giants, Marlins, Mets, Nationals, Rockies and Twins.
