After leading by as many as 18 late in the first half, the Celtics had to go into overtime to beat the Miami Heat 93-91, tying the Eastern Conference finals at two.

“The first half was flawless,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. “It was as good as maybe we’ve had. We got completely away from it….we really did. And then Miami just got into us. I thought they physically got into our air space and took us out of everything.”

The Heat’s LeBron James led all scorers with 29 points, but fouled out in overtime. It was the first time James fouled out of a game as a member of the Heat.

“I don’t foul out,” LeBron said after the game. “Sometimes if I’m going to foul out, you know that sixth foul, I wish I earned it. I wish it would’ve actually been a foul on me.”

Paul Pierce who led the Celtics with 23 points, also fouled out. He had a different take on James having to make an early exit.

“You look at the guy, he never really has a lot of fouls, but we were aggressive against him tonight,” Pierce said. “We stepped up twice and took charges. We drove when he was guarding the ball. That’s what you have to do.”

Heat guard Dwyane Wade had a chance to win the game on the final shot of overtime, but the ball bounced out of the hoop.

“Red wasn’t going to let that go in. Not in the Boston Garden,” Doc Rivers said of the late Celtics coach Red Auerbach.

Game 5 will be Tuesday night in Miami. Tip-off is at approximately 8:30 PM ET.
