MLB? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1340705426595Major League Baseball(NEW YORK) — The Chicago Cubs have struggled mightily on offense this season, but help is on the way. The team has promoted first baseman Anthony Rizzo from Triple-A.

Rizzo was acquired by the team during the offseason in hopes of developing into the big-time hitter many scouts predicted when he was part of the San Diego Padres organization. Rizzo was destroying the ball in the minors. He batted .345 with 23 home runs, 18 doubles, and a 1.110 OPS in 69 games.

He did get a taste of the big leagues last year with the Padres. In 49 games he struggled at the plate as he hit .141 with just one home run and nine runs batted in.

The Cubs hope that Rizzo can provide a spark for the team on offense. The team ranks 27th in runs, 22nd in batting average, 28th in slugging percentage, and 21st in slugging percentage in all of Major League Baseball.

First baseman Bryan LaHair will shift over to the outfield to make room for Rizzo.
