Custer County Rafter Presumed Drowned

(CHALLIS) – A whitewater rafter is presumed dead after disappearing during a float trip on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River Sunday. The Custer County Sheriff’s Office says the missing person, who has not been identified, fell into the river at Velvet Falls, about five miles downstream from the Boundary Creek boat ramp. Investigators say the search may be hampered by swift and rising waters.
