(B0ST0N) — Boston Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka is coming back. After not pitching a game for the Red Sox in over a year because he had his right elbow reconstructed, Matsuzaka will start Saturday’s game versus the Washington Nationals.
“We are going to go inning by inning and I’m going to check with him after the inning,’’ Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. “Hopefully he will be able to get in the dugout before I have to make a decision.’’
Dice-K has made six rehab starts for Triple-A Pawtucket. In his final start his velocity reached 94 mph.
Matsuzaka is in the final year of a six-year $52 million contract.
