Florida Mansion Where Gianni Versace Was Murdered for Sale

Photodisc/Thinkstock(MIAMI) — The sprawling Miami Beach mansion where fashion designer Gianni Versace was murdered is for sale. Asking price: $125 million.
Since the murder, tourists have flocked to the 10-bedroom, 11-bathroom home to pay their respects to the famed designer, as well as to admire the gorgeous architecture.
Versace purchased the home in 1992 and spent tens of millions of dollars implementing amenities such as a 54-foot-long mosaic pool lined in 24-karat gold, arched doorways, an open air courtyard and various frescoes and statues.

“This is an iconic oasis for the rich-and-famous that sits in the middle of South Beach. It’s a one-of-a-kind property, created by a genius; that is a piece of art, and a piece of history,” owner Peter Loftin said in a statement.
Versace was shot to death on the front porch of his South Beach mansion, which he called Casa Casuarina, in 1997.
Serial killer Andrew Cunanan hid from police after the murder on a nearby houseboat. Eight days after Versace’s murder, Cunanan shot himself in the head.
Much more modest homes where a murder has occurred often give buyers the jitters.
“There are old superstitions and magical thinking and also illusory association,” said Frank Farley, a Philadelphia psychologist. “If a murder occurred in a place, it could occur again. They think, ‘I don’t want to risk the horror.’”
Last year, a home in Silver Spring, Md., had trouble finding a buyer. The three-bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home is in a nice neighborhood. There was just one catch — three people were murdered there.
