Former Israeli Prime Minister, Yitzhak Shamir, Dies at 96

Jennifer K.Law/AFP/Getty Images(JERUSALEM) – Yitzhak Shamir, a former prime minister who believed in the expansion of the settlement in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip and an ardent Zionist, died on Saturday, according to the New York Times at the age of 96.
Shamir was born in Poland, and his family perished during the Holocaust.
Menachem Begin, the right-wing prime minister in 1980, appointed Shamir Foreign Minister of Israel. Shamir later won the role of prime minister in 1988 and later retired from politics at the age of 81.
He is survived by a son and a daughter. His wife passed away last year.
