(NEW YORK) — Antonis Samaras, the new Prime Minister of Greece, will miss this week’s EU Summit as he recovers from eye surgery, the BBC reports.
Samaras had surgery on Saturday to repair a damaged retina, and a government spokesman said doctors have forbidden the prime minister from flying. The new foreign minister, Dimitris Avramopouos, will attend in his place. Also attending the summit will be the outgoing finance minister, Giorgos Zanias, and two deputy ministers, says the BBC.
Finalizing the Greek bailout terms will be an important item during the two-day EU summit in Brussels beginning on Thursday.
