Jaguars and Maurice Jones-Drew Having Contract Dispute

NFL via Getty Images(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) -- In hopes of sending a message to the team's front office, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew will be skipping a mandatory minicamp as part of a contract dispute.

Jones-Drew was not present for a team meeting today, and is not expected to join the team during the team's three-day camp. In his sixth season with the Jaguars, Jones-Drew enjoyed his finest season as a pro. He ran for an NFL-leading 1,606 yards with eight touchdowns. He has two years left on his five-year contract valued at $31 million.

"Obviously, he has expressed that he would like to renegotitate and we have expressed again that we feel he has a contract with two years left that we expect him to fullfill those obligations," Jaguars general manager Gene Smith said.

Despite his production on the field, Jones-Drew is scheduled to make $4.45 million in 2012. That wouldn't even rank him in the top seven among highest paid running backs.

Jones-Drew could be fined up to $60,000 for missing the three days of practice.
