Jamie Moyer Clears Waivers

Justin Edmonds/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — After being designated for assignment last week by the Colorado Rockies, pitcher Jamie Moyer has cleared waivers and will be able to sign on with another team if they come calling.
The 49-year-old pitcher missed all of last season and surprised many this year early with Colorado, but struggled in May to finish with a 5.70 ERA overall, .328 opponents’ batting averages, and gave up 11 long balls in 54 innings pitched.
“It’s a tough pill to swallow but it’s part of the business,” Moyer said in a news conference after being released last week. “Unfortunately I didn’t hold up to my end of the bargain. That’s what happens in the game.”
Moyer has said he is still interested in pitching and could be worth a shot for a team in need of some pitching in the minors. If no team shows interest, Moyer leaves with 269 wins and a 4.25 ERA in 4,074 innings pitched, and a World Championship with the Phillies during his 25-year career.
