Jerry Lewis Rushed to the Hospital
Published at(NEW YORK) — Comedian Jerry Lewis was rushed to a New York hospital Tuesday night after collapsing due to low blood sugar, according to the New York Post. The 86-year-old funnyman was scheduled to receive an award at the Friars Club Tuesday night and present the top honor to Tom Cruise.
After Lewis collapsed at the Waldorf Astoria, guests waiting at the Friars Club gala were informed that he would no longer be accepting the Applause Award or present Cruise with the Entertainment Icon Award.
Still, the 49-year-old Mission Impossible star was presented with the prestigious award by his Jerry Maguire co-star, Cuba Gooding Jr., and NBC’s Matt Lauer.
“I am sorry Jerry couldn’t be here tonight,” Cruise said during his acceptance speech, “but I know he is going to be fine.”
Reps for Lewis could not be reached for comment.
