(WASHINGTON) — Jobless claims took a turn for the better last week, dropping to 377,000, according to the latest figures from the Labor Department.
The news comes on the heels of a dismal monthly jobs report that found the nation added only 69,000 jobs in May, bumping the unemployment rate up to 8.2 percent.
The government said Thursday that for the week ending June 2, the number of people filing for benefits dropped by 12,000. The previous week, claims hovered closer to the 400,000 mark at 389,000.
The four-week average, however, increased slightly, rising by 1,750 to 377,750.
