Logano got past Martin in the closing laps to take home his first victory since 2009 to become the first Sprint Cup driver this season to win from the pole.

Tony Stewart was third, Logano’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin finished in fourth, and Jimmie Johnson rounded out the top five.

For Logano it was a surreal feeling beating his idol and the others in the top five.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Logano in victory lane.  “I know what I did but it’s still unbelievable.”

Logano is in his contract year but isn’t worried about the pressure of winning and just hopes this victory can get his team rolling.  Martin saw Logano race as a young pup at 11 years old and raved about his potential as future Cup champion.

Logano passed Martin with three laps to go after he gave Martin a bump.

“That was pretty intense, we went back and forth, that’s good racing man,” the 53-year old Martin told the Motor Racing Network after the race.  “We were close.”
