The Chargers selected Tomlinson with the fifth overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft out of TCU. He played nine seasons in San Diego, becoming the franchise all-time leader in rushing yards and touchdowns. The four-time first-team All-Pro spent the past two seasons with the New York Jets.

“I always felt like a Charger,” Tomlison said Monday. “The guys, my teammates, the bond we built, the battles we went together, it was special.”

Tomlinson leaves the gridiron ranked fifth on the all-time rushing list with 13,684 yards. He is second on the all-time rushing touchdowns list with 145 and is third on the all-time total touchdowns list with 162.

Tomlinson won the NFL’s MVP award in 2006, when he totaled a league single-season record of 31 touchdowns.
