Niese was originally supposed to undergo a minor procedure during the All-Star break, but he will wait until the offseason for the operation. He met with team doctors on Monday and felt as though the surgery can wait until after the season. Niese has a condition where his heartbeat occasionally becomes irregular.

“Down the road I’ll probably get something done to stop it all,” Niese said. “But for right now it’s nothing serious.”

Niese will make his next start on Sunday, giving him a full weeks rest since his last start. This season, Niese is 4-2 with a 4.11 ERA. Before being pulled from his start on Sunday, Niese was enjoying one of his best starts of the season. He pitched six innings, gave up no runs, and struck out 10.
