“I’ve been dreaming of this all my life,” Davis said. “I just talked to coach Cal (John Calapari) and Mike (Michael Kidd-Gilchrist). We were sitting down at the table and it finally hit us. We’re hear and we’ve been waiting all of our lives for this. It’s a dream come true.”

Davis’ selection was not a surprise. Since he helped lead Kentucky to a NCAA Championship in April, he has been thought by many to be the best player in the draft.

Last season, Davis’ only season in college, he was named college basketball’s player of the year and the Most Outstanding player of the Final Four.

He led Kentucky in points scored, rebounds, and steal. He also led the nation in blocks, averaging 4.7 per-game.

Davis’ teammate, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was taken with the second pick of the draft by the Charlotte Bobcats. That marks the first time in history that a school had the top two picks in the draft.
