“It’s a very special feeling, it’s different from stepping out on any other court,” said Djokovic.  “This court has the longest history and just 12 months ago I won the title here. My biggest achievement in my career, I’m really glad to be playing well.”

The top-ranked Djokovic entered the first round seeking his sixth Grand Slam for his career.

“I was nervous. It’s normal; haven’t played on the grass official match for 12 months so I’m really glad to be back here on the Centre Court, after that I felt much better on the court,” said Djokovic after he was broken in his second service game, but held the rest of the way. “This is very encouraging prior to the next challenge.”

Djokovic has now won three matches in a row after losing the French Open final to Rafael Nadal.
