(ASUNCION, Paraguay) – Former President Fernando Lugo was previously a Roman Catholic bishop before being elected to office, according to Time.
After taking office, he was caught with a paternity scandal by admitting to having a child, while he was still a bishop.
He also had political charges for attempts to bypass congressional approval for international treaties and to use the military for political means.
On Thursday the vote was 76-1 to impeach Lugo. Vice President Federico Franco will become the new President.
