The Patriots announced they have signed Gronkowski to a six-year, $54 million dollar contract extension.

In just his second NFL season, Gronkowski set a league record with 17 touchdowns catches as well as 1,327 receiving yards. His 90 catches in 2011 was second in NFL history for a tight end as well. Gronkowski’s deal guarantees him $18.17 million.

“He broke every record last year and it’s just a remarkable story,” Gronkowski’s father, Gord, said. “And you know, in Arizona we didn’t know if he was going to play anymore when he had is back surgery (in college). And now, it’s a great story. He’s out there now and everything’s well and he’s ripping it up.”

Gronkowski’s 27 touchdown caches is the most ever by a tight end in his first two seasons in the NFL.
