(OAKLAND) — The Texas Rangers placed starting pitcher Derek Holland on the 15-day disabled list Thursday due to a fatigued left shoulder.
Holland has been battling a stomach virus for the last several weeks, which has caused him to lose 10-15 pounds. The Rangers, concerned about him not pitching at full strength, sent him back to the Lone Star State Thursday to be examined by a doctor.
Holland is 5-4 on the season with a 5.19 ERA. He has struck out 59 batters in 67 innings of work.
Alexei Ogando will take Holland’s place in the rotation and start Sunday on the road against the San Francisco Giants.
