(WASHINGTON) — Major League Baseball suspended Tampa Bay Rays reliever Joel Peralta for eight games Thursday for having pine tar on his glove. The 36-year-old is appealing his suspension, keeping him on the field until the appeal process is complete.
Peralta was ejected from Tuesday night’s game against the Washington Nationals after umpires found the foreign substance on his mitt.
The right-hander is 0-2 on the season with a 3.72 ERA and two saves in 36 games. He has struck out 36 batters in 29 innings of work.
