Richard Leavitt Has Been Executed

(BOISE, ID)   –   Richard Leavitt, convicted of the 1984 murder of Blackfoot resident Danette Elg, has been put to death.   He was transferred into the Prison Execution Chambers just after 9:40.   At 10:00am sedatives were administered as he was secured to the gurney in the Chamber.   Ten minutes later the fatal dose of pentobarbital was administered into his system.   He was pronounced dead at 10:25 this morning.    Witnesses say Leavitt was calm, and Prison Officials were succinct to the minute in carrying out the procedure.   Leavitt maintained his innocence in the crime to the end.
