Suggs told the team he suffered the injury while taking part in conditioning drills, but there are witnesses who claim that Suggs actually suffered the injury taking part in a basketball game. Suggs attended a basketball tournament in Arizona the last weekend in April, and that’s when he reportedly suffered the injury.

“He got hurt Sunday prior to the [basketball tournament] championship game,” said Herman (Sonny) Hoffman, the director of the Akchin Gymnasium in Maricopa, Ariz., where the tournament was being held.

“My staff saw the whole incident. It was the condition you’d describe for a torn Achilles. He had no movement, no step, and it swelled up right away,” he added.

Suggs is the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award winner. In 2011 he registered 70 tackles, 14.0 sacks, and seven forced fumbles.
