(OAKLAND, Calif.) — The New York Yankees announced Thursday that outfielder Brett Gardner will undergo arthroscopic surgery on inflamed tissue in his right elbow and is most likely done for the season.
The 28-year-old speedster has been out since April 17, when he dove for a ball in a game versus the Minnesota Twins.
Gardner attempted multiple comebacks but never felt right.
Gardner had 49 stolen bases last season. That tied Oakland Athletics outfielder Coco Crisp for the American League lead.
Andruw Jones and Raul Ibanez have taken Gardner’s place in left-field.
