Published at(ST. LOUIS) — St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Chris Carpenter plans to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery to repair a nerve issue that has kept him from taking the mound this season.
The surgery will take place in Dallas on July 19. The expected recovery time is between three-to-six months.
The 37-year-old Carpenter was first shut down in March after experiencing weakness and numbness in his arm and shoulder. He resumed throwing in mid-June, but the symptoms returned.
