Charlie Sheen on “American Idol”? Actor Open to Idea
Published at(LOS ANGELES) — American Idol producers are at a very “preliminary” stage in deciding the way the show will look for season 12, sources tell TMZ.com, with show boss Nigel Lythgoe reportedly joking that he wants Charlie Sheen and Jerry Lewis sitting at the judges’ table.
The website says Lythgoe’s return as executive producer is not definite, but if he does come back, he quips to TMZ, he wants Sheen and Lewis on board.
Not one to stay silent on such things, Sheen tells TMZ that he’d actually do Idol if the show makes it worth his while financially.
He says, “If the numbers move the needle AND Idol matches 20 percent of my weekly salary for Autism Speaks, JDRF, and the Boys and Girls Club…then the hell with it. As we say, pour the smoke.”
He also notes that FX, which airs his new sitcom Anger Management, would have to give him permission to be on Idol, though theoretically that shouldn’t be a problem, since the cable network is owned by the same parent company as Fox.
Nothing reportedly has been decided yet in terms of the judges’ panel, but other names rumored to be thrown around include Adam Lambert and Miley Cyrus. It’s still possible that Jennifer Lopez will return — something TMZ is told that producers badly want.
Feelers reportedly are being sent out “wide” to give producers options on other potential judging talent. Previous reports suggest that both Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler are considering their positions on the singing contest.
