In return, the Braves have sent right-handed pitchers Arodys Vizcaino and Jaye Chapman to the Cubs.  Vizcaino is one of the top prospects in the Braves organization but is recovering from Tommy John surgery.

The Braves are hoping Maholm and Johnson can be effective during the stretch run of the season. The 29-year-old Maholm is 9-6 with a 3.74 ERA, including a 4-0 record and 1.23 ERA in the month of July.

The 35-year-old Johnson is hitting .307 with three homers and 16 RBI. He can play all three outfield positions.

The MLB trade deadline is Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m.  ET.

Also as a part of the Cubs’ fire sale, they traded catcher Geovany Soto to the Texas Rangers for minor league pitcher Jake Brigham.
