(BOSTON) — It was thought that Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz would return from the disabled list Wednesday, but it’s starting to seem that won’t happen.
Ortiz, who has been out since July 18 with a right Achilles strain, canceled his baseball-related activities for the second consecutive day Monday, because of soreness in his right heel.
“I don’t know if it was ever a goal,” Red Sox skipper Bobby Valentine said on expecting Ortiz back Wednesday. “Whenever he’s ready. He’s running in the pool and we’ll take it from there. He’s not far away but I don’t know that Wednesday’s the magical day. It will be sometime soon.”
Ortiz is hitting .316 with 23 home runs, 58 RBIs and a .414 on-base percentage this season.
