The Dodgers have tried to trade for League before, but this time the team was able to swing a deal for him prior to baseball’s non-waiver deadline. League was one of the better closers in the American League last season, but was demoted after some early season struggles. The Dodgers plan on using League as a set up man.

“I know him from the American League and he’s dirty,” Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. “This is a good arm. If he was in a different spot in his career, they’d really have to think twice about moving him. He still throws 96-97 miles per hour.”

Last season, League saved 37 games with a 2.79 ERA but this season has been a different story. In 46 appearances, League is 0-5 with nine saves and a 3.63 ERA.
