Ian Desmond Headed to the DL
Published at(NEW YORK) — Washington Nationals All-Star shortstop Ian Desmond will placed on the 15-day disabled list with a tear in his left oblique.
Desmond has been dealing with the injury since early June but an MRI Sunday revealed the tear.
“That shows you how tough he is out there, playing through it,” Johnson said. “I’m not sure what the recovery time is or anything, but that’s a big loss.”
Outfielder Cory Brown is expected to be called up from Triple-A Syracuse Monday to take Desmond’s roster spot.
For the season Desmond is hitting .286, with 17 home runs and 53 RBIs.
