Idaho State Police Report: Crime Rates Steadily Decreasing
(IDAHO FALLS) – A new report released by the Idaho State Police shows that the overall crime rate is decreasing statewide. There were 18,000 reported crimes last year, a five year low for the state. Still, some types of crimes were up from 2010. The number of reported hate crimes alone jumped nearly 26 percent. Officials say the statistics are nuanced, but reflect a generally positive trend. The report comes just days after the Department of Correction moved to outsource nearly 250 Idaho prisoners due to overcrowding.
