NBA via New Orleans Hornets(NEW YORK) — It may not be the guy they set out to get when free agency started, but the Dallas Mavericks are slowly but surely filling out their roster. The team has agreed to a one-year contract worth $8 million with free agent center Chris Kaman.

“Parnering up with @swish41 and heading to the Mavs……..” Kaman tweeted. “I want to say thanks to the Hornets fans for all the support even though our marriage was a short one!!!”

A reliable and steady center, Kaman spent this past season with the New Orleans Hornets after he was traded by the Los Angeles Clippers in the Chris Paul trade. In his only season in New Orleans, he averaged 13.1 points and 7.8 rebounds in 47 games played.

The Mavericks had cut ties with numerous members of their 2010-2011 championship team to save up as much salary cap space as they could this summer. Although, despite their best efforts, they were unable to land big name players like Deron Williams and Dwight Howard.

Kaman will be teamed up with his close friend Dirk Nowitzki, the two were teammates on the German national team during the 2008 Olympics.
