(NEW YORK) — The New England Patriots released running back Joseph Addai Wednesday after he failed his physical.
The former Indianapolis Colt was signed by the Pats May 10. The Patriots currently have four running backs on the roster, Steven Ridley, Shane Vereen, Danny Woodhead and Brandon Bolden.
Addai has been plagued with injuries the past two seasons with the Colts, playing in only 20 games.
His best season as a pro came was arguably his rookie season, in 2006, when he rushed for a career best 1,081 yards, hauling in 40 receptions for a combined eight touchdowns.
