Petition Asks State to Stagger Food Stamp Benefits
Published at(BOISE) – A group of Idaho grocers and other organizations are asking Gov. Butch Otter to fix Idaho’s food stamp problem. They say the state’s grocery stores are overwhelmed during the first few days of the month when welfare recipients receive their benefits. They’re petitioning state lawmakers to stagger the benefits in an effort to help ease the burden. A measure to stagger food stamp benefits was proposed in the Idaho Legislature earlier this year, though talks stalled before anything could come of it.
