MLB? The 31-year-old right hander is headed to the 15 day disabled list with a strain of his right trapezius muscle.

Matsuzaka experienced tightness in the same area in spring training and then again while rehabbing in May.

“We’re going to try to give it some more time and see if it doesn’t go away for good this time,” Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said.

Dice-K was removed in the second inning of Boston’s 6-1 defeat against the Oakland Athletics on Monday.

He had felt discomfort before the game but it was thought he’d be fine.

First baseman Mauro Gomez was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to take Matsuzaka’s spot.

In five starts this season, Dice-K had an 0-3 record with a 6.35 ERA.
