Pictures/TM and © DC Comics(NEW YORK) — The movie website Rotten Tomatoes was forced to freeze its comments section — for the first time ever — after Batfans continuously flamed critics who gave The Dark Knight Rises negative reviews over the weekend.

The fan responses to Marshal Fine’s pan — as well as less-than-stellar reviews from other critics — were immediate, personal, ongoing, and in some cases, laugh-out-loud funny.

Some fans chose to excoriate Fine by paraphrasing dialog from Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

“You either die a good critic, or live long enough to see yourself get trashed by every Dark Knight fan alive,” posted one, quoting slain former Gotham City D.A. Harvey Dent.

“When this critic’s review is ashes, he has my permission to let his career die,” said another, paraphrasing Bane, the new movie’s main villain.

The biggest sin in many fans’ eyes, is that Fine made an apparently unforgivable comparison.

“At times, the action is so massive and thunderously clunky that I might as well have been watching one of the Transformers movies,” he wrote.

For the record, a search of most leading critics shows that Fine is amongst a small minority of critics who didn’t like Nolan’s final chapter in his Dark Knight series.
