Republicans say not including Americans over the $250,000 threshold would hurt small business owners, the so-called “job creators” that are vital to rebuilding the economy.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told his colleagues the president has a “nightmarish economic record,” and by “demanding higher taxes on the few, he’s trying to direct attention from it.”

Speaking on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, Majority Leader Harry Reid remarked that “fabulously rich so-called small business owners like Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton could qualify for these wasteful giveaways.”

A vote could happen this week.
