UCONN Police located the man around 10 p.m. Monday in a remote location of the Groton campus and alone.  An hour later, an alert was sent to students advising them to “evacuate [the] campus immediately until further notice.”

Officers from the university and nearby towns worked through the night negotiating for the gunman’s surrender.  At one point, WTNH reports, police used “less than lethal force” against the man in an effort to make him drop his gun.  He later shot himself after talking with police on the phone, according to WTNH.

It is not clear if the man has any connections to the university.

The school is expected to open Tuesday at 8 a.m. as scheduled.
