(SPRINGFIELD) – Three wildfires burning on the Snake River Plain have consumed over 8,300 acres. Regional fire officials say the Cox’s Well Fire about 11 miles west of Springfield was by far the largest at over 8,000 acres. Other fire burning four miles southwest of Atomic City has scorched 300 acres, while a small 3-acre fire was reported near EBR-1 at the Idaho National Laboratory. Officials say lightning was the likely culprit in each of the fires.
