Three Fires Burning in East Idaho

(IDAHO FALLS, ID)  —  Cox’s Well Fire: Crews responded to an apparent lightning caused wildfire 11 miles west of Springfield, Idaho on BLM land. The 8,064-acre fire was reported about 2:00 pm Tuesday afternoon. East Idaho Interagency Fire Center responded with 6 engines, an air attack, 2 helicopters, 2 dozers, 2 water tenders and 2 Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATS). Fire behavior was active in the grass/ sage brush fuel type, but has moderated with the rising humidity. Sage Grouse habitat is threatened and resource advisors are on scene. The fire is currently 70% contained with estimated full containment at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Midway Fire: Crews responded to an apparent lightning caused wildfire about 4 miles southwest of Atomic City, ID. Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center responded with 10 engines, 1 dozer, 2 single engine air tanker (SEATs), 2 water tenders and an Air-Attack platform. Resources have responded from BLM, FS, and INL. The fire is currently 500 acres with potential for growth as fire moves with wind and terrain through grass and brush fuels; fire behavior is moderating with rising night-time humidity. Crews are making progress on containment and will remain on scene tonight.

A third fire close to the site burned a little over three acres.
