(NEW YORK) — Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have privately settled their divorce, just ten days after Holmes announced she was divorcing her husband of nearly six years.
The settlement reportedly includes an agreement on custody of their only child together, six-year-old Suri.
In a joint statement to ABC News released Monday, Holmes’ attorney says, “The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed.”
“We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life,” the statement continued. “We thank Tom’s counsel for their professionalism and diligence that helped bring about this speedy resolution.”
Although the statement did not specify if Holmes received sole custody of Suri, which Holmes requested, a joint statement released by the estranged couple just minutes before the settlement announcement declares, “We are committed to working together as parents to accomplishing what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests.”
“We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents,” the joint statement continues.
Holmes filed for divorce and sole custody of the couple’s daughter on June 28. She was scheduled to attend a hearing in the case set on the New York Civil Supreme Court calendar on July 17.
